Bahamas: the beautiful land of many islands.
I have been to two Nassau and Grand Bahama.
Nassau Bahamas:
Beautiful teal water
Getting here:
I just had a long weekend and found a flight to Nassau for around 300 per person.
We had a short layover in New York first, but on landing we got a taxi to our hotel Melia Resort, which I booked on Hotels.com for $90 a night.
Traveling the Island:
We frequently took the Jitney’s for 1.25 a trip to the local fish fry restaurant area Arawak Caye. They don’t offer change so have the exact amount. When we wanted to travel further more quickly we rented a car. Just remember they drive on the opposite side of the road.
Food:
We tried many restaurants at Arawak Caye which offered us cheaper options than at the resort and was recommended by one of our fellow jitney passengers.
Grand Bahamas:
Getting here: We flew through Miami and found flights for around 600. Once there we picked a taxi company that actually sent us to our hotel in an old limo.
Traveling the Island:
Most of the time we took Jitneys. We did rent a car for the far out Lucayan National Park and Gold Rock Beach.
Food: I found it odd that the local grocery store only sold frozen fish so we asked the locals were to buy fresh fish. They recommended we go early in the morning to the old chinese market area. In the back we found some trucks that were selling fish out of coolers that was caught that day. They filet the fish for us and we were set for several meals.
