Secrets are no fun secrets are for everyone.
We believe everyone should be able to travel; either a cheap backpacking trip with staying at hostels or a slightly more luxurious trip. Backpacking and staying in more affordable places is a great way to see the culture and lifestyle of the local area without the separation that money can provide. When you stay at nicer resorts they cater to their clients, which makes you loose some of the local culture, but then again sometimes you just need a break. We were feeling we needed a break after a rather rough year and therefore when I booked our 2018 anniversary trip I was looking for comfort. Here is how I booked an all inclusive VIP status 7 night trip for 2 adults to the Dominican Republic at 2,200 dollars including room, meals, alcohol, scuba lessons, rental car, flight, and airport parking.
First of all, fair warning, keeping the budget under 2500 takes a lot of patience.
Hotels:
I searched our point discounts, Travelocity, Orbitz, Travelzoo, AAA, Costco and Groupon for multiple locations. I ended up going with the Groupon deal, this time, because it let me set dates and included everything including scuba lessons! https://www.groupon.com/deals/ga-bk-cofresi-palm-beach-spa-resort-17. All that cost 129 a night.
Flights:
For flights I always search in a private tab so they don't increase the price when I am checking frequently. I looked at the Kayak explore setting which gives you a map view so you can look at regions for the month you entered. Next you search for the flight with clicking the plus or minus one day feature. Flights to the smaller airport were only $601 on American. Although it was cheap, I was disappointed to see American had joined the other nickel and dime airlines by charging for seats and all baggage.
Rental car:
I searched AAA and Kayak and booked on Kayak. I added on insurance as my credit card would only cover me not my husband. The car was 18 dollars a day and insurance was 9.
Airport parking or Taxi:
Parking I looked into promo codes, loyalty programs, before going with ParkDia with my AAA discount. This required calling them to get the code to enter in the website. It ended being seven dollars a day.
This is how I found our, "I don’t want to have to work at all while we are there trip."
